Great tips! It's so fun - and often so enlightening - to revisit an annotated book from years earlier and see what felt important back then, what life phase I was in at the time, etc. I love your phrasing of books being a 'lifelong conversation'!
Right? It’s interesting how it says something different to us each time we read it because inevitably, we change. Thank you for reading and commenting!
I am currently doing this same thing for East of Eden by John Steinbeck. It does help the reader think more deeply, and helps see past just the story. The story is supposed to be simply the window frame — not the whole landscape. It is so fun to annotate the book and think deeper to see the landscape through the window.

Lots of great ideas here! I have been trying to reflect more on paper about what I read this year.
I realized too this is a little harder to do on Kindle. You can highlights and sometimes add notes but it takes more effort than regular books.
I do like to highlight quotes when reading on Kindle that I’ll go back and copy into my commonplace book later!
That’s a great idea!
If you have one you really love, please share with us :)
Thank you!
